eBay has announced changes to Promoted Listings that affect placement eligibility and attribution. The operational risk is familiar: when a platform changes how an order is credited, a seller may mistake a reporting change for an improvement in underlying demand.

Audit the baseline first
Export performance for a stable period before and after the change. Segment by product family, average selling price, margin and return rate. Then compare ad-attributed sales with total sales, not just one dashboard metric.
Budget decisions should follow evidence
- Keep a record of campaign settings and the date each changed.
- Separate new listings from established listings in reporting.
- Check whether organic sales moved at the same time as attributed sales.
- Use profit contribution, not revenue alone, as the escalation rule.
